What you expect and allow your child to earn privileges for complying with your expectations

In a situation where your child loves going to the toy aisle of a store while you’re shopping for school supplies but has a temper tantrum when they can’t get what they want from the toy aisle, tell them exactly what you expect from him before going to the store and reward him with a special privilege if he follows that expectation. Something like “We are going to Target. We are going to get school supplies from the school supply aisle and then we will go straight home.” Remind them upon arriving what you expect of him. Then say something similar after every purchase is made until it’s time for dad or mom to leave immediately after everything except food is bought.
